Peru – 2018 Joseph, June 17, 2018June 17, 2018 There were a number of great bars and restaurants to watch the World Cup with Peru fans in the GTA, but I’m so glad I stuck with my gut and headed to Mochica on College St. Not only was it packed with flags and jerseys on what seems like almost half the spectators, but the Taste of Italy outside only added to the atmosphere. This is Peru World Cup in Toronto. Date: June 16, 2018 Score of game: Peru 0, Denmark 1 Location: Mochica, 614 College St, Toronto, ON Estimated number of fans at location: 200 Toronto’s Peruvian community came out in droves to support their team on Saturday in a heartbreaking loss to Denmark. Peru had seemed like countless opportunities to scored but just couldn’t convert. Peru’s last FIFA World Cup appearance was 1982, so the anticipation had been building for decades and you could really feel it in the room. A lively atmosphere from kick-off to final whistle. I actually shot video of the moment Peru missed their penalty kick which I’ll try and upload in the next few days. It was a heart-wrenching moment in the match. Mochica has a modest sized back patio, and thanks to Taste of Italy, a modest patio in the front as well. The kitchen was busy, as was the bar, and it’s only a shame there wasn’t a little more scoring. Are you a fan cheering for Peru? Did you get to watch Saturday’s game from a different venue.
